The darkness' tide we cannot halt,
But by gum we can stem it.
We might not vanquish every fault —
But by gum we'll condemn it.
History's evil's in the past,
And we cannot rewrite it;
Present evil holds as fast,
But by gum we can fight it.
I know we cannot save the world,
But by gum we will try,
For there but for the grace of God
Go I.
